Die Hard firefighter undergoes surgery to look like Bruce Willis. John Joseph Conway, 43, from Chicago, flew all the way to India’s Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in New Delhi with a photograph of his idol, so he could look like him.
Now recuperating, Conway told Hindustan Times, “I am a firefighter… I need to look the part. I wanted to improve my jawline. Bruce Willis has a nice, strong jaw.”
Dr Vivek Kumar, one of the three plastic surgeons who operated upon Conway, said, “After he contacted us on email, he said that as a man who jumps into burning buildings, people in the community look up to him and he needed to maintain his macho image.”
The doctors studied his face for three days to give him the look he wanted and the surgery took three hours to finish. So far Conway is satisfied with the way he looks. He spent $1,600 on his surgery, He said that that he plans to bring his 63-year-old mother for a facelift and his sister, 40, will follow. All three procedures would cost them US$4,600 in India but it would probably cost them US$40,000 in the US.
This is Conway’s second trip for surgery to India. Last April 2005, he was in for an eyelid surgery that cost him one-fifth of what he would have had to pay in the US. “With the money I saved, I got to see a new country — incredible India,” he smiles.
