6,124 couples kiss in the Philippines
Monday, February 12th, 2007The Philippines has broken the world record of the most number couples kissing simultaneously.
The event called Lovapalooza has been organized for the kissing event. More than 6,000 couples kissed simultaneously, for at least 10 secounds, on a parking lot of a mall in Pasay City. Couples danced and listened to music till midnight. After a countdown broadcast on loudspeakers installed all around the area, they kissed exactly at midnight, holding the kiss for at least 10 seconds. Then fireworks went off, heart-shaped red balloons and confetti filled the air, adding to the festive and romantic mood of the night.
The current record is held by 5,875 couples kissing at an event organized at the Elisabeth Bridge in Budapest, Hungary, on June 25, 2005. While organizers say that the official tally of couples who attended Lovapalooza and kissed simultaneously showed 6,124 couples or pairs in all, this number has to be verified by an independent auditor, approved by Guinness World Record officials in order for this event to become officially a new world record.
